Thing 18:Online Productivity Tools
Why, if I have Microsoft Office installed on my computer, would I need to seek out another source when I haven't even begun to master what Microsoft has to offer, plus it serves my needs just fine? I realize my computer skills are wanting, and my lack of curiosity seems to be nil in this instance, but I am focused on what I have. My browser could not display Open Office correctly and all things Google are user friendly.

I think Open Office is a good option for folks who didn't get a loaded laptop from their employer and can't afford to continually donate to Bill Gates foundation. It doesn't have all of the function of Microsoft but give it time. It seemed to me that folks were just tired of MS holding them hostage.
On another note, am I missing something or are you just plain skipping some? Don't get me wrong, you can be a rebel, a few others have skipped around as well :)
Honeybear, You are the recipient of my random daily response and it turns out to be a good match. I couldn't agree more about learning one more word processing tool. I have just recently started with MicrosoftWord 2007 and am still finding my way around. I do like the idea of storing text out in cypespace instead of on my computer. For folks that buy computers with only the trials for word processing perhaps this will be an easily accessible tools for them.
You sound like me! I enjoy computers, but I'm not that addicted to what they can do. The basics suit me just fine and I don't really want to waste time searching for a program I can do without.
Honeybear,
I would suggest that you try out Google docs. They are easy and simple and would give you a good beginning step to Word. The Open Source material is a good next step in between Google Docs and Microsoft Word, Power Point, Excel. It might actually help you get to all the bits of the Microsoft products not to be overwhelmed all at one time.
I understand all of your thoughts and opinions about using Open Office and Google Docs, BUT the biggest reason for trying and or using these things is money! MS Office is VERY expensive, especially if you have to buy it yourself. I really think that eventually we will move to a lot of these open source options, and stop "feeding" the mega companies! Besides I love the way you can share and collaborate on a document in Google docs without having to send emails back and forth!
